Edo man jailed for trafficking six girls for prostitution

The 37-year-old man who was said to have been arrested outside the country by officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) in 2009, following a tip-off, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges against him.
The victims, reportedly between the ages of 15 and 21, were later taken to NAPTIP for rehabilitation after the rescue operation.
The offence which was said to contravene Sections 15a, 16 and 19b of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003, as amended, landed Eboigbe in jail as Justice Okeke pronounced the judgment on the case when it was resumed on February 29, 2016.
Meanwhile, reports surfaced recently of two young girls, Franka Akhimen (25) and Ehinon Onofua (23), who were lucky to have escaped from a wild and dangerous life on the streets.
The young ladies had been approached by an unidentified, suspected female trafficker at Ekpoma, Edo state, and offered work in a restaurant in Ivory Coast.
They had ended up on the streets of Togo, where they were made to work as prostitutes, and were to remit the sum of 800,00 Cefas to the lady identified as ‘Madam Excellent’.
They shared the story of how they were deceived and how they learnt their lessons the hard way.
